Composite Technician
Reports To: Assigned Supervisor or LeaderLocation: Dayton, OHSummary:
- Preparation
- Studies planning documents, blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
- Operation
- Fabricates models from specifications, sketches, drawings, etc.
- Casts composite reproductions from pattern or model.
- Reworks casts to meet specifications or changing requirements.
- Lays out reference lines to trim or fit cast parts using height gages, surface plate, angle blocks, etc. Follows reference lines for trimming or fitting, using hand tools, etc.
- Assembles casts using a variety of fasteners.
- Recognizes weak points in fixtures and supports them with wood, metal, etc. to increase strength, using hand tools.
- Makes effective use of priming, painting, waxes and releases.
- Does hand lay-up of composite parts.
- Quality
- Measures finished parts to verify conformance to specifications using templates and other measuring instruments.
- Other Aspects
- Operates autoclave.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
- May be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to applicable state and federal laws.

Duties and responsiblites include, but are not limited to, the following:- Training/Experience: Minimum of 4 years of trade school, vocational education and work experience, or apprenticeship.
- Physical Demands: The employee is required to: stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor, exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Licenses Required: None.
- Visual Acuity: Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading computer screens, machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.
- Hearing Ability: Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
- Working Conditions:
- High noise levels from operating machines
- Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
- Breathing fumes, dust and mist
- Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid

CNC Mill & Lathe Set-up & Operator
Reports To: Assigned Supervisor or LeaderLocation: Dayton, OHSummary:
- Preparation
- Reads and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences.
- Compares programs with program sheet to assure accuracy of machine instructions. Edits program to eliminate instruction errors or omissions.
- Operation
- Mounts, aligns, and secures tooling, attachments, and work piece on machine. Selects and loads cutting tools that will be required.
- Calculates and sets machine controls to position spindle relative to work piece and regulates factors, such as cutting depth, speed, feed and coolant flow.
- Loads new programs in machine control, or retrieves existing programs from database.
- Proof runs trial programs, monitoring displays and machine operation to prove program operation.
- Hand edits programs or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining.
- Machines metals and other materials such as composites, plastics and rubber.
- Quality
- Measures work piece for conformance to specification, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators and gauges.
- Inspects and measures parts to maintain statistical process control charts when necessary
- Other Aspects
- Produces CNC programs in less complicated situations using a Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Work Station and runs post processer to produce cutter path.
- Operates machine manually to perform non-automated functions, when programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
- Discusses programming errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems.
- Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
- Thoroughly removes burrs from parts when needed.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Cleans machine, tooling, and parts. Keeps machinery properly lubricated and performs machine maintenance.
- May be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
